Thomson Multimedia has joined Sony in becoming a member of both industry groups set up to promote DVD+RW and DVD-RW recorder formats respectively (see also Format war 'fudge' for DVD Video recorder in this section). On 6 January 2001, Thomson announced membership of RWPPI (RW Products Promotion Initiative), group set up in May 2000 by Pioneer to support DVD-RW format. Two days later it formally announced membership of DVD+RW group (www.dvdrw.com)--joining Hewlett-Packard, MCC/Verbatim, Philips, Sony, Ricoh and Yamaha.
But despite joining RWPPI 'to get to know and understand the DVD-RW format', Thomson has no plans to launch either a DVD-RW product or a device compatible ...
