W.R. Grace & Co. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, contending that a broken state court system prevents it from dealing with 125,000 to 140,000 pending asbestos injury claims, many of them "unmeritorious."
Attorneys for claimants and their survivors said the company's bankruptcy filing reduces the chances that their clients will be fully compensated for disabling or life-shortening lung diseases.
