For most of us, thoughts of winter conjure visions of landscapes devoid of color, filled with deciduous trees and semi-dormant shrubs. We also think winter is the time to relax about landscaping.
While this maybe true in the East and Midwest, winter is actually a very important time for the warm-season landscape. Homeowner associations and commercial properties should consider this a time to have a variety of important maintenance tasks performed. These may include dormant spraying and pre-emergence control of weeds, turf fungus and other diseases. Winter is also time to add unique combinations and varieties to the landscaping plan.
