Research at Vintage Nurseries, Wasco, Calif., offers hope in the battle against vine mealybugs. Vintage, North America's largest grapevine nursery, has begun using the hot water dipping technique on all its bare root vines and cuttings.
Hot water dipping was popularized in Australia as a successful defense against nematodes and crown gall, according to Vintage founder and co-owner Greg Sanders. "Research suggests it also works on other diseases and pests."
