... although not conclusive, a University of Michigan in Ann Arbor study links infant iron deficiency to adolescent learning and behavioural problems.
The study involved 48 children who had suffered chronic severe iron deficiency in infancy and 114 who had "good iron status".
All of the children who had sufficient iron exhibited normal growth patterns after infancy. Adolescents with infant iron deficiency appeared to perform more poorly in arithmetic and writing.
