CHICAGO – July 19, 2006 – HighBeamä Research, Inc. – operator of the award-winning HighBeam Research Engine (www.highbeam.com) – has renamed and redesigned its free online encyclopedia to better integrate it into its network and to provide a more powerful online research tool for users.

Still available at the same URL (www.encyclopedia.com), the stand-alone service that was formerly named Encyclopedia.com is now HighBeamä Encyclopedia, consistent with the HighBeam family of brands -- HighBeamä Library, HighBeamä Web and HighBeamä Reference.

Additionally, HighBeam Encyclopedia now provides a faster-loading, easier-to-navigate design with the same look and feel as the HighBeam Research Engine. HighBeam designed the new user interface to appeal to the wide demographic that uses the online encyclopedia, including individuals who need information for business and personal use and students working on research projects.

 

In addition to providing free access to more than 57,000 frequently updated encyclopedia articles from Columbia University Press, the new HighBeam Encyclopedia also makes it easier for users to find newspaper and magazine articles from HighBeam Library that are directly related to an encyclopedia topic. Links to HighBeam Library’s extensive archive of more than 35 million articles from more than 3,000 sources appear along with HighBeam Encyclopedia’s results.

 

HighBeam Encyclopedia is now a more complementary fit with HighBeam Reference (reference.highbeam.com), one of the largest and deepest reference resources on the Web. HighBeam Reference includes over 100 dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs and thesauruses, as well as more than 600,000 entries from more than 100 Oxford University Press reference titles covering science, medicine, technology, literature, finance, history and the arts, among other subjects.
