CHICAGO - March 10, 2003 - Alacritude, LLC - the publisher of eLibrary and Encyclopedia.com - announced today that eLibrary will be offered through the next version of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office 2003. Last week, Alacritude announced an agreement to include eLibrary on Microsoft Office's eServices Web site at http://office.microsoft.com/services.
The new agreement enables Microsoft Office 2003 customers to conduct extensive research without leaving their Microsoft Office applications. Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq "MSFT") announced the second beta release of Office 2003 today. This new version presents the ability to search for relevant eLibrary documents when a word is highlighted within most Office applications.
eLibrary search results can appear in a "research pane" within a Microsoft Office 2003 document and include article abstracts from newspapers, newswires, magazines, journals and transcripts, as well as relevant information from maps, photos and reference sources.
eLibrary provides researchers a centralized location where they can easily find answers to the many questions that come up in education, business and personal research. The eLibrary service includes 13 million documents from over 1,000 sources - premium information that can¿t be found elsewhere for free online.
eLibrary search results and article abstracts are available for free, and eLibrary offers unlimited, full document access with additional research capabilities for those who pay a low-cost subscription fee.
The Microsoft Office 2003 Beta 2 testers will have complimentary access to all eLibrary services until the end of the beta period.
Chairman and CEO of Alacritude Patrick Spain said, "We are thrilled to serve the research needs of so many Microsoft Office customers at the exact moment they have a question. Finding answers to every day research questions and organizing that information in a meaningful way -- without ever leaving the Microsoft Office application -- will save information workers huge amounts of time."
"One of the ways Microsoft Office 2003 makes people more productive is by connecting them with information they need to make good decisions," said Jeff Olund, general manager, Office Online for Microsoft. "eLibrary's compelling research service is offered through the Microsoft Office System so customers will be able to access relevant content at the time and place they need it."
Microsoft Office 2003 is scheduled to be available this summer.
