Here's a look at how Bovis Lend Lease is handling the challenging complexities of a multifaceted retirement community project near Gainesville, Ga.
In Gainesville, Ga., Bovis Lend Lease is currently serving as general contractor for Phase 2 construction at Lanier Village Estates, a continuing care retirement community being built near Lake Lanier north of Atlanta. It's a complex project, and a variety of factors - including prior experience on the site, an innovative approach to subcontractor relations, and a multifaceted safety program - are helping to make it a success.
The development, located on a 72-acre site, was designed by THW Design architects Peter Wu and Mark Kill for ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, Inc. a not-for-profit corporation that provides life care retirement living to more than 6,000 residents in 15 communities. Ken Karmeris is the owner's rep.
Bovis Lend Lease's current work at Lanier Village Estates is the latest in a number of projects that the contractor has handled at the site. These include Phase 1 construction, a $48.1-million undertaking completed in 2001 that included not only the initial site work, road construction, and parking lot and paving work but also construction of the central facility as well as numerous carriage homes and cottages. The following year, Bovis Lend Lease served as general contractor during construction of the health center, a $6.6-million contract that wrapped up in March 2003. In June 2003, Bovis Lend Lease handled roadway and related construction of the last quarter-mile of the main loop access road, and in August of that year the company served as general contractor for eight additional carriage homes at a total of about $2. …
