The Construction Education Foundation of Georgia and its industry partners take high school construction students right to the job site to see what career opportunities construction has to offer. First of a series.

As part of its mission to promote careers in construction, the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia and its partners frequently host jobsite tours for high school students throughout Georgia.

One recent tour took a group of construction students from Adairsville High School to Georgia's Whitfield County, where Turner Construction Company is constructing a new courthouse facility. The 33 students weren't sure what to expect as they piled onto the school buses on a chilly October morning. Their instructor, Ron Williams, had told them only that they were going to see a construction site where many craft people were working together to build a new courthouse.

But there's no doubt the students got a lot more out of the trip than anyone could have expected.

Carrie Greene, project engineer for Turner Construction Company, is the person responsible for the $23-million construction of the Whitfield County courthouse in Dalton, Ga. …
