Q: Is it actually possible to become "muscle-bound"?
A: No. "The myth of being muscle-bound probably stems from the fact that many lifters ignore flexibility training," says Dave DiFabio, C.S.C.S., a strength coach at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. "However, research shows that lifting weights through a full range of motion can actually improve flexibility.
"Just look at bodybuilders who do full splits onstage," says DiFabio, "or Olympic weightlifters who can squat so low that their butts touch their heels." Those lifters who do end up tight and unable to move athletically are the result of imbalanced training, not the so-called detrimental effects of lifting weights and building muscle. …
