Tennessee's employment recovery has been the strongest among the states in the Southeast. What do you think are the main reasons behind the state's employment gains? Education and health services along with professional and business services are the state's largest private industries, as measured by employment. In terms of the number of jobs, both these industry segments have rebounded now to exceed the peaks seen before the recession. Leisure and hospitality services also account for a big part of the state's employment. Branch Director Billy Carroll--from the Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg area, near the Smoky Mountains--provides us with regular reports on this sector. The industry has benefited from strong tourism activity, and its employment has surpassed the prerecession level as well. …
